Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans (PDP)
Introduced in 2006, Medicare Part D prescription drug plans are the most recent addition to the Medicare program.
There are two ways of getting Part D coverage. The first is through purchasing a stand-alone plan to pair with Original Medicare coverage. The second is to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription drug benefits, often called an MAPD plan.
Part D plans are sold by private insurers and are available to anyone enrolled in Original Medicare. There is no required physical exam for them, and you cannot be denied this coverage for financial or health reasons. Though Medicare Part D is optional, you may pay a late-enrollment penalty if you don’t enroll as soon as you’re eligible.
Choosing a Part D Plan
How can you know for sure which plan is right for you? The answer may seem complex, but it does not have to be. We look online and read reviews. We may even talk to family and friends to find their experiences. But these aren’t the only resources you have. Licensed health insurance agents can be your access to a wealth of knowledge on this specific topic, and a good licensed insurance agent can pair you with the right plan to meet your needs.
Licensed Health Insurance Agents Can Help with Medicare Insurance Questions
Health insurance agents are educated and trained on the insurance plans they work with and must update their education continually. They can analyze which plan may be a good fit for your personal situation. This is why it’s good to know your health insurance representative and have their phone number handy. If your situation changes, your licensed insurance agent may have a better plan that can save you money. If you would like to speak with us, just call us at 877-588-7166 (TTY: 711).
Talk to Friends & Family
In addition, you may want to talk with others about their experiences with their Medicare Part D plan. Ask your friends and family about what plan they selected, how they feel about it, and what they learned.
